January Favourites

Oops, January is gone now but I wanted to share my favourites of the month with you! I’ve been trying out a bunch of new products in the past few months and I think it’s about time I did a favourites post! Let’s see if I can narrow it down to just a few products.

Sephora Formula X Nail Polish – Holy cow, this stuff is addicting. I tend to hoard nail polish, but with the Formula X I think it might be necessary. I have two colours so far and they’re both amazing. The colour I’ve been loving this month is “Hercules” – it’s shockingly pink. I’ve never been a huge pink fan, but I’m addicted.

Narcisso Rodriguez: For Her – this was a fairly recent purchase, maybe within the past 4 months. I’m all about the signature scent, and I think this might be mine. I love warm and spicy scents, I’m not usually a fruity or flowery kind of girl. I love that this has a combination of scents with  notes of Musk, Iris Powder, Rose Petals, Benzoin Balm.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O – I have a full blog post and review of this product here, but needless to say I love it. It isn’t harsh and it takes off all my makeup. A great purchase for sure!

Bioderma

Smith’s Rosebud Salve – This stuff is a delight. I keep it on my desk and use it at all times of the day. I put it on in the morning, before I put my makeup on, while I’m working away at my computer and even right before bed. It’s moisturizing without being too sticky or having too much scent.

L’Oréal The Infallible Blackbuster 8hr Liquid Eye Liner – I’ve tried my fair share of high end and drug store liquid eyeliners but this one has to be my favourite at the moment. The tip is like a sharpie and gives you great control over your lines. I tend to wear black liner almost every day and this stuff holds up!

Mac Face and Body Foundation – Here’s something so many people have tried, but I’ve recently re-fallen in love with it. There’s something so familiar and nostalgic about this foundation. I love it because when I wear it, it doesn’t feel like I have tons of makeup on. I don’t always love a full face of makeup but this evens out my skin tone and doesn’t get cakey. I much rather wear this over a heavier foundation on normal days and let my skin shine through.

I have so many more products that I’ve been loving lately, I’ll share them soon!

Battle of the Eye Makeup Removers

I think I’ve found my favourite eye makeup remover after years of searching. What a struggle, right?

You know the typical issues, it’s either too oily and leaves your skin feeling gross, or it doesn’t actually remove all of your eye makeup – especially for those ladies (and gents) who wear waterproof makeup.

Well my internet friends, I think I may have found the solution (get it?)

Bioderma

Now, if you follow any beauty bloggers or vloggers, you’ve probably already heard about this stuff. It took me awhile to pay attention to Bioderma  Sensibio H2O (let’s just call it Bioderma for the rest of this post) because I thought it was just another super hyped product that was overpriced. I will admit that the price is up there, but I think it might be worth it.

I had only ever seen the bigger 250mL bottles for around $20, so when I came across this itty bitty 100mL bottle for $6, I grabbed it. I’m pretty glad I did, too.

Doing some research on the Bioderma product line, they have a few different types of makeup removing solutions and other products to go along with them. I have the Sensibilo (sensitive skin), but there is also the Sebium line for people with oily/combination skin. Now I do have combination skin but it’s also pretty sensitive. I decided to try the Sensibilo and I’ve had no regrets.

Two products I had previously been using were the Lancome Bi-Facial Double Action Eye Makeup Remover and the Clean & Clear Soothing Eye Makeup Remover, but they both left my skin feeling oily afterwards – Bioderma doesn’t do that. You don’t need a lot of the solution, I use a few drops on a cotton pad before I wash my face at night and I don’t have to worry about scrubbing my already sensitive eyes.

My conclusion: Although overly hyped by every beauty blogger and on the tad bit expensive side, Bioderma works for me!

What are your favourite eye makeup removers?

I’m a Lush…

I don’t shop here a lot but, ohhh how I love Lush. The closest Lush store to me is at least a 30 minute drive so I like to save it for special occasions. This past weekend was one of those, as you might have seen I got together with some friends last weekend and ended up going shopping. The mall in particular that we went to has a Lush, so of course I made it my business to go try some new pretty smelling things. I wasn’t at all disappointed.

Pretty pretty lush

Pretty pretty lush

I’d been wanting to try one of their Fresh Face Masks for awhile and I was trying to decide between Cupcake or Cosmetic Warrior. However, chatting with one of the lovely sales associates, he pointed out Love Lettuce and I was sold.

I do this weird thing, when I buy a new product I don’t use it for awhile, but with this mask I had to try it, I’m so glad I did. It left my skin feeling so smooth and without discolouration, which I’m prone to – I’ve always been an easily flushed kind of girl.

Here’s what I loved about it:

  • smells like a cup of delicious hot tea
  • went on smoothly
  • you don’t need to use a lot of product (lasts longer!!)
  • dries quickly and evenly
  • feels fresh
  • the exfoliating beads (of ALMOND!)

Here’s what I didn’t love so much:

  • the colour (but I can look past that, the product is amazing)

The mask left skin feeling smooth and hydrated, I usually put on a mostiurizer right after I wash or exfoliate my face, I didn’t geel like I needed to after I washed it all off. I have somewhat sensitive skin so I’m going to keep using this and loving the way it makes my skin feel – here’s hoping me skin doesn’t freak out.

While I was in Lush, I HAD to pick up a Bubble Bar. This took me awhile, I think I went around the store smelling everything at least twice (sorry Coleen and Meghan). I just couldn’t decide everything just smells and looks so good! I ended up choosing the first Bubble Bar I saw, the Dorothy. Holy cow this thing smells amazing, according to Lush’s website it says it smells of “ylang ylang, sweet figs and uplifting orange oil” fine by me – I’ll take 5 more.

I think another trip to Lush in the very near future is in order…
