A few years ago, I had the opportunity to go to Calgary, Alberta. It was only for one night but the group I was with decided that it would be fun to take a trip up to Banff instead of stay in the Calgary area. I was skeptical at first, but I’m so glad that we did it. It was my first time in Alberta and I wanted to see as much as I could.
Like I said, it was a few years ago so that camera quality isn’t the best but I still love looking through these photos and remembering what it was like standing on top of Tunnel Mountain in Banff and being awestruck by my surroundings. I can’t wait to get out west again this summer and climb some more mountains!
Oh you know, just an elk and some wild horses to start off the trip nicely.
Even driving near Banff is beautiful.
We started our hike up Tunnel Mountain, it was by far the most beautiful place I have ever seen.
View of the town of Banff from Tunnel Mountain.
Near the top, at this point I was almost crying from being so close to the edge.
Our little hiking party, missing these folks like crazy!
As we made our trek back down the mountain (at times on our bums) we saw these little friends. They were very friendly and came right up to us.
This is one of my favourite pictures of all time.
We spent some time walking around Banff and had lunch. We didn’t have too much time so by dusk we headed back towards Calgary. I had such a fun time in Alberta, I can’t wait to go back west!
I love the fall, as I’ve said before the colours are mesmerizing. I’m lucky enough to live in the shadow of the Niagara Escarpment along the famous Bruce Trail – the outdoors are all around me. It’s a great sight throughout the year, from the buds in the spring, to the fresh green of summer, and the changing of the leaves all throughout the fall. I highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area!
For me, I visit any time that I feel the need to get out. Last Friday, I convinced my dad to take a hike with me and my family’s dog, Monty. Monty is an English Springer Spaniel, we adopted him from a rescue about 4 years ago, he’s 9 now and has as much energy as a puppy does, perfect for hiking.
I wanted to share some beautiful shots that I snapped during our 2 and a half hour hike along the Escarpment Trail and Bruce Trail. Enjoy!
Over looking West Hamilton and McMaster University
On our journey back to the car, we stopped at a bakery that I’ve been going to since I was little. We had a spot of lunch and a cookie, we were famished and I forgot to grab some shots of the delicious food so no photos of the food – sorry!
We also passed by a family friend’s vineyard who happened to be out picking some grapes to sell at the side of the road later in the day.
Being an animal person, I had to stop and give a pet to this beautiful horse at the side of the road. She trotted right up to me, not shy at all!
It was a great day to hike, I can’t wait to do it again soon…
